the First opening meeting of The Group of Friends of Mountainous Countries established under initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic

On August 29, 2019 the First opening meeting of The Group of Friends of Mountainous Countries established under initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic took place in the UN Headquarters. Member States representatives took part in this event. During the meeting Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic Mirgul Moldoisaeva mentioned Kyrgyzstan’s initiatives in framework of the UN such as announcement of December 11 as the International Mountain Day and hosting different international event in support of issues of fragile mountain ecosystems’ preservation and their flora ad fauna. In order to further promote mountainous agenda Mirgul Moldoisaeva announced on establishment of the Group of Friends of Mountainous Countries and informed about its aims and goals.

During the above-mentioned meeting the participants expressed gratitude toward Kyrgyz party for establishment of the Group of Friends and discussed important issues of its work and prospects of cooperation development.

After the meeting the next countries became members of the Group of Friends of Mountainous Countries: Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Andorra, Bolivia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Georgia, Canada, Nepal, Switzerland and Tajikistan.
