Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Dinara Kemelova met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres

On August 3, 2022, on the margins of the 10th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Dinara Kemelova met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

The Deputy Minister noted the 30th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Organization and handed over a letter from President of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Sadyr Zhaparov regarding the prospects for cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United Nations.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the UN Secretary General on the upcoming visit of President of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Sadyr Zhaparov to New York to participate in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, as well as about the main international initiatives of Kyrgyzstan, in particular, on promoting the mountain agenda and education in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

During the conversation, parties discussed the outcomes of the Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, held in Cholpon-Ata. In particular, D. Kemelova, noting the positive integration dynamics in the region, informed about the adoption by the Central Asian states of a number of important documents, including the Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Cooperation for Development of Central Asia in the 21st century.

The Kyrgyz delegation also held meetings with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and Americas Miroslav Jenča and the Assistant Secretary-General, Head of the Office of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in New York Ligia Noronha, during which an exchange of views took place on promising ways to deepen cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN in order to overcome relevant challenges and threats that the world is facing and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
