The Kyrgyz Republic was elected to the Mountain Partnership Steering Committee

As part of the 6th Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership countries, which took place from September 26 to 30, 2022 in Aspen, USA, elections were held for the Mountain Partnership Steering Committee. This organization unites 471 members, including 61 states. It was founded in 2002 as a voluntary alliance of United Nations partners working on mountain peoples and the environment.

An important outcome of the Mountain Partnership Summit was that the Kyrgyz Republic was elected to the above-mentioned body for the first time. Our country is represented in the Steering Committee by the Special Envoy of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ambassador-at-Large Nurlan Aitmurzaev.

In addition to Kyrgyzstan, Andorra, Italy, Nepal, Yemen, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Malawi, as well as organizations of the UN system - the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) were elected to the Committee.

The Steering Committee defines the main areas of the Mountain Partnership's programs and oversees the preparation and implementation of its four-year strategy and two-year work plan. In addition, the Committee supervises the activities of the Secretariat of the Mountain Partnership and regulates the joint work of its constituencies.
