The first political consultations were held in Dhaka between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the People's Republic of Bangladesh

On April 22, 2024, at the initiative of the Bangladeshi side, the First political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the People's Republic of Bangladesh were successfully held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Avazbek Atakhanov, the Bangladeshi side was headed by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Masud bin Momen.

During the consultations, the parties discussed the current state of bilateral relations in the political, trade and economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres, agreed to conduct mutual visits at the highest and high levels, and also exchanged views on possible priorities for further bilateral cooperation.

Regarding issues of cooperation in the political field, A. Atakhanov noted that Kyrgyz-Bangladeshi bilateral relations are characterized by mutual understanding, similarity of positions on international and regional issues within the UN, OIC, SCO and other international organizations. At the same time, the Kyrgyz side noted that the Kyrgyz Republic attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive cooperation with Bangladesh, both at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

Particular attention was paid to discussing issues of promoting economic diplomacy, as well as expanding the legal framework between the two countries. Deputy Minister A. Atakhanov noted the presence of great trade and economic potential between the two countries.

In particular, A. Atakhanov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is interested in cooperation with Bangladesh in such areas as the textile and clothing industries, agricultural processing, pharmaceutical, tourism and IT sectors. Bangladesh is considered as a leader in franchising, and the Bangladesh textile market is estimated at US$19.04 billion. The main markets for ready-made clothing by Bangladesh are the USA and EU countries. This industry employs between 3 and 5 million people in Bangladesh.

During the consultations, the parties also exchanged views on topical issues on the international agenda and agreed to continue interaction on matters of regional cooperation at the UN, OIC, and SCO platforms.

As a result of the negotiations, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on holding of regular bilateral inter-ministerial consultations.
