Congressman David Price expressed his support to Kyrgyzstan in its efforts to lift U.S. visa restrictions for Kyrgyz citizens

On February 23-28, 2020, a Kyrgyz Republic delegation consisting of the members of Jogorku Kenesh Mr. Mombekov, Mr. Ergeshov and Mr. Mamataliev are visiting Washington, DC, at the invitation of The House Democracy Partnership (HDP).

With the assistance of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the U.S., on February 25, members of the Jogorku Kenesh met with the Chairman of The House Democracy Partnership, Congressman (Dem.) David Price.

During the conversation, members of the Jogorku Kenesh raised the issue of Kyrgyzstan's inclusion on January 31 this year to the extended list of countries subject to immigration restrictions, according to the U.S. Presidential Proclamation. Kyrgyzstan Parliamentarians expressed their concern on this issue, especially taking into account the important role of Kyrgyzstan in democratic development and parliamentarism.

Congressman Price emphasized that he is very familiar with Kyrgyzstan and aware of the important role Kyrgyzstan is playing in the region in terms of democratic development. In this regard, Congressman said he was shocked by the news of Kyrgyzstan's inclusion into the "anti-immigration list" and assured that he would provide maximum assistance in the early removal of Kyrgyzstan from the list.

On February 26, during the session of the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, where the Acting U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf testified, Rep. David Price called Kyrgyzstan the only parliamentary democracy in Central Asia. Congressman Price also urged the U.S. Administration to work constructively with countries that have been subject to restrictions, as relations with these states, as noted by the Congressman, are very important to the U.S.
