The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev took part in the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the countries participating in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia in Nur-Sultan

On October 12, 2021 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev took part in the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the countries participating in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Nur-Sultan.

During his speech, R.Kazakbaev noted that the Asian region needs to deepen cooperation to ensure mutual trust, strengthen regional security and develop constructive relations of friendship and interaction with the CICA member states.

He emphasized that the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev to convene a Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, declared on the sidelines of the 47th session of the UN General Assembly in 1992, is becoming increasingly relevant in the face of new challenges and threats.

Taking into account the 30th anniversary of the CICA next year, as well as the leading role of Kazakhstan in strengthening the CICA, he noted that Kyrgyzstan supports the priorities of the Chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the CICA, including efforts aimed at the institutional development of the conference, in particular, the creation of the Council of Eminent Persons of the CICA and transforming the Think Tank Forum into a permanent platform. He expressed confidence that these initiatives of the Chairmanship will increase the effectiveness of the CICA and strengthen its international authority.

Minister R.Kazakbaev announced that in order to take preventive measures aimed at countering the potential threat of infiltration of terrorist groups from conflict zones, the Kyrgyz Republic proposes to hold an International Conference in 2022 on the issue of foreign terrorist fighters, as well as exchange experiences on the comprehensive rehabilitation and reintegration of women and children with ties to terrorist groups.

R.Kazakbaev informed that at the current session of the UN General Assembly from the «Group of Friends of Mountain Countries» the Kyrgyz side initiated to declare 2022 - The International Year of Mountains and proposed to approve a five-year program for sustainable development of mountain regions and to convene the «Bishkek + 25» Global Summit in 2027.

As a result of the event, the Ministers of the CICA member states adopted the Updated CICA Catalog of Confidence Building Measures, the Regulation on the CICA Council of Eminent Persons and Amendments to the CICA Rules of Procedure.

Within the framework of the participation of Minister R.Kazakbaev in the ministerial meeting of the CICA, a collective meeting of the heads of foreign affairs ministries with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.Tokaev also took place.
