The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev met with the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria Alexander Schallenberg

On September 30, 2021, in Vienna, within the framework of the working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev to the Republic of Austria, he met with the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria Alexander Schallenberg.

During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Austria, in particular, the organization of mutual visits at the highest and high levels, the holding of regular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Kazakbaev invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria A.Schallenberg and the Austrian delegation to take part in the 1st EU-CA Economic Forum, which will be held on November 5, 2021 in Bishkek. Austrian Foreign Minister A.Schallenberg, in turn, confirmed his participation in the 1st EU-CA Economic Forum. In addition, the parties discussed the participation of the Austrian business delegation in the Forum.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Kazakbaev noted that next year the Kyrgyz Republic and Austria will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and in this regard, he invited the Austrian side to develop a joint Roadmap in all areas of bilateral cooperation. The parties also agreed on the need to take an inventory of the legal framework between the Kyrgyz Republic and Austria. A number of draft agreements in the field of tourism, health care, culture and sports were also submitted to the Austrian side for consideration.

The parties noted the importance of continuing work within the framework of the Kyrgyz-Austrian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation and holding the next meeting of the Commission in 2022 in Bishkek. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Kazakbaev also suggested that the Austrian side consider the possibility of opening direct flights from Vienna to Bishkek, which would contribute to the development of trade and economic cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Austria. The Austrian side was offered to hold the Days of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic in Austria and the Days of Culture of Austria in the Kyrgyz Republic. The parties noted the importance of further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, in particular, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Kazakbaev congratulated the Austrian side on the successful holding of the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in Vienna at the beginning of September this year, in which the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament T.Mamytov also took part.

Austrian Foreign Minister A.Schallenberg, in his turn, expressed the readiness of the Austrian side to further expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation. A.Schallenberg invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Kazakbaev to take part in the disarmament conference to be held next year in Vienna.

They also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan, the approaches of the EU and Austria to the situation in Afghanistan. Minister R.Kazakbaev reported on the initiative of Kyrgyzstan to provide 500 visas for Afghan youth to study in universities of the Kyrgyz Republic and suggested the Austrian side to implement a joint project to train Afghan women students in universities of the Kyrgyz Republic.
