The Permanent Mission of Kyrgyzstan to the UN together with the ILO organized an event to mark the World Day of Social Justice

On February 20, 2023, at the initiative of the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and the International Labor Organization in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union, UNCTAD and the UN DESA, an event was organized on the occasion of the World Day of Social Justice on the theme “Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities for Social Justice”.

It should be noted that this year, two events are organized: in a virtual format with the participation of young people and in-person at the UN Headquarters with the participation of representatives of UN Member States and stakeholders.

The Deputy Minister of Culture, information, sports and youth policy of the Kyrgyz Republic Esengul uulu Chyngyz took part in the online event on behalf of the Government of Kyrgyzstan, who spoke in detail about the ongoing work of the ministry to involve youth in achieving social justice. In their speeches, youth representatives noted the role of the younger generation and the need to encourage their participation in digital initiatives.

The event at the UN site was attended by the Minister of Finance of Colombia, José Antonio Ocampo Gaviria, as the keynote speaker, the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN A. Mohammed, the Director General of the ILO G. Houngbo and the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN A.Kasymaliyeva. In the panel part of the event, experts discussed problematic aspects and perspective areas of cooperation to enhance social justice.

During her speech Permanent Representative A.Kasymalieva emphasized that social justice is the basic principle of creating equal opportunities for all in order to achieve peaceful and prosperous coexistence in the society, as well as among states. She noted that it was for this reason Kyrgyzstan initiated and, with the broad support of partners, achieved the approval of the date of February 20 as the World Day of Social Justice by the United Nations General Assembly. A. Kasymalieva emphasized the initiative of President Sadyr Zhaparov on the joint implementation of green projects in exchange for country's external debt.

As a result of the event, its participants expressed their readiness to further increase active cooperation between the UN Member States and all interested parties to achieve social justice through unleashing existing opportunities.
