The meeting of the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to France Mr. Sadyk Sher-Niyaz with the Head of the representative office of EDF (France) in CIS and Russia Mr. Laurent Paganon

On March 24, 2023 Sadyk Sher-Niyaz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to France, met with Laurent Paganon, Head of the representative office of EDF (France) in CIS and Russia, in Paris.

The meeting was held on the initiative of the Kyrgyz side in the framework of maintaining constant contact and in order to attract foreign direct investment in the energy sector of the country.

During the meeting, Ambassador S. Sher-Niyaz informed that, taking into account the current situation in the world regarding global warming, the Kyrgyz Republic, as part of the policy of transition to environmentally friendly energy sources, plans to implement a number of large projects for the construction of new hydroelectric power plants, including the construction of a large-scale hydroelectric power station "Kambarata-1" and "Chatkal" HPPs, each with a capacity of 1,800 MW.

In this regard, the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic, expressing satisfaction with the interest of the largest energy company EDF in the construction of these strategic facilities, noted that Kyrgyzstan welcomes the investment activity of French companies. The Kyrgyz Republic is also interested in attracting advanced technologies and innovations from France for the development of the country's national economy.

For this, a favorable investment climate has been created in our country and, if necessary, the country is ready to create additional conditions specific to the energy industry.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue joint efforts to further enhance cooperation in the energy sector between the Kyrgyz Republic and France.
