Event to promote the cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan - the production of the national carpet "Shyrdak", jointly held by the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York and the UN Delegations Women’s Club

On April 21, 2021 the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York with the UN Delegations Women’s Club, held an online cultural event to promote the intangible cultural heritage, in particular the production of the «Shyrdak» carpet, which was attended by the Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the UN, spouses of Permanent Representatives, diplomats, and members of the UN Secretariat.

Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Mirgul Moldoisaeva made a presentation, during which she told the participants about the process of creating a shyrdak as an art form, about the semantics of ornaments, a direct connection with the daily life of nomads and the important role of women in making it. Permanent Representative Moldoisaeva informed the participants about the philosophy of nomads, the important role of the manufacturing process for uniting the efforts of people and creating a sense of social cohesion.

A video clip about the process of making a shyrdak was also demonstrated for the participants.

The participants of the event expressed their gratitude for familiarization with the culture of the Kyrgyz Republic, and also expressed a desire to visit Kyrgyzstan in the future for direct acquaintance with the nomadic culture of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as to participate in festivals dedicated to "Shyrdak".
