Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva, Daniiar Mukashev met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Madame Bachelet

On May 4, 2021, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva, Daniiar Mukashev met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Madame Bachelet.
During the meeting, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic Daniiar Mukashev informed the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in details about the armed conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on April 28-30, 2021 and the current situation in the border areas of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Permanent Representative Mukashev informed that as a result of conflict 36 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic died, the overwhelming majority of whom are civilians, including two children (5 and 12 years old), and 160 Kyrgyz citizens wounded. About 30 thousand people were forced to leave their places of residence; residential buildings, buildings of educational facilities, as well as numerous infrastructure facilities were destroyed.
At the same time, the Permanent Representative underlined that the Kyrgyz side has been always against the solution of border issues by military means and always has stood for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
In her turn, High Commissioner Madame Bachelet expressed sincere sympathies for the victims among the civilian population of Kyrgyzstan. She informed that the OHCHR has been closely following the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border from the very beginning. In this context, Madame Bachelet commended the efforts and actions of the Government of Kyrgyzstan to peacefully resolve the conflict and prevent its further escalation and assured the Kyrgyz side that OHCHR would closely monitor the situation at the border of two states.
