Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York, together with International Labour Organization, hosted the side-event on occasion of World Day of Social Justice

On February 23, 2021 under the initiative of Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and the Office of International Labour Organization in New York, the side-event entitle “A Call for Social Justice in Digital Economy” on occasion of World Day of Social Justice has taken place. In framework of this event International Labour Organization presented the report entitled “World Employment and Social Outlook 2021: The role of digital labour platforms in transitioning the world of work”.

Director-General of International Labour Organization Guy Ryder, President of Economic and Social Council - Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN Munir Akram and Head of the European Union Delegation to the UN Olof Skoog and the Director of the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights for the UN in New York Craig Mokheimer took part in the above-mentioned side-event. The Kyrgyz party was presented by the State Secretary of Labour and Social Development Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic Kanybek Adiev and Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Mirgul Moldoisaeva. Also representatives of Member States, UN institutions and academia participated in this event.

Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Mirgul Moldoisaeva made an introductory statement in which she noted the importance of information and communication technologies advancements in broadening opportunities to achieve social justice. At the same time she also noted the importance of further cooperation on overcoming the digital divide between Member States, as well as within countries and societies. She underlined that the initiative for declare February 20 as the World Day of Social Justice belongs to Kyrgyzstan and has been supported by the majority of Member States. After the floor was given to the State Secretary of Labour and Social Development Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic Kanybek Adiev who noted the importance of the Ministry’s activities on social protection of population and the country’s commitment to international obligations.

The participants of this side-event mentioned the importance of further development of cooperation between Member States, key international organizations and other stakeholders in order to overcome the digital divide, following the basic principles of social justice in the digitalization era and consequences of COVID-19 pandemic. Also the majority of participants mentioned the Kyrgyz Republic as one of the leaders in promotion of the above-mentioned issues
