On July 1, 2023, the 43rd Conference of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) started its work in Rome, which will continue until July 7. From Kyrgyzstan, the Permanent Representative to FAO Taalai Bazarbaev is participating in the work of the Conference.

On 2 July, the the FAO Conference held the elections of the DirectorGeneral of FAO. There was only one candidate for this position, the current Director-General of the Organization Qu Dongyu from China. Based on the results of the vote, Qu Dongyu, having received the support of 168 Member States of the Organization, was re-elected as FAO Director-General for a new 4-year term, until 31 July 2027.
