The OSCE Special Representative highly appreciated Kyrgyzstan’s legal framework on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings

On 15-17 February 2023, Valiant Richey, the OSCE Special Representative to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings visited the Kyrgyz Republic.

During his visit, V.Richey met with the Deputy Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic N.Azygaliev, the Minister of Labor, Social welfare and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic K.Bazarbaev, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic.

While appreciating Kyrgyzstan's comprehensive legal and policy framework, including a dedicated anti-trafficking law, regional coordination councils, and a National Rapporteur established under the Parliament, the Special Representative also noted other good practices, including the recent establishment of the National Anti-trafficking Rapporteur under the Migration Council of the Parliament, the active role of the Association of Women Judges to improve judicial practices on human trafficking cases, and strong anti-trafficking efforts by civil society across the country.

The visit of the OSCE Special Representative to the Kyrgyz Republic was carried out in close coordination between the Permanent Delegation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the OSCE Secretariat.
