The photo exhibition "My Heart is in the Mountains" at the UNHQ on the occasion of International Mountain Day

On December 12, 2022, the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations in New York on the occasion of International Mountain Day opened a photo exhibition at the UN headquarters on the theme: “My heart is in the mountains”. The photo exhibition will be open until December 23, 2022.

International Mountain Day was proclaimed in 2002 by the resolution of the 57th session of the UN General Assembly, dedicated to the results of the International Year of Mountains, initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic. International Mountain Day has been celebrated annually on December 11 since 2003.

In the resolution, the UN General Assembly called on the international community to organize events on this day at all levels to draw attention to the problems of the development of the mountainous regions of the planet and the need to aid their population. In addition, the special relevance of actions aimed at the sustainable development of mountain regions was noted.

For reference: Since 1998, at the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic and other countries, the UN General Assembly has adopted 12 resolutions on the problems of mountainous countries. The latest on this list is the declaration by the UN General Assembly of 2022 as the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development. During the current 77th session, the Kyrgyz side is advancing the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov on declaring 2023-2027 the "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions".
