On the efforts of leaders and members of the Kyrgyz diaspora, residing in the US to assist Kyrgyzstan during COVID-19

The Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the USA thanks compatriots living in the United States and Canada for financial assistance supporting personal healthcare workers and vulnerable families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Embassy also thanks the representatives of the Kyrgyz diasporas in the USA and Canada for supporting our compatriots (students and tourists) in finding temporary housing, providing medicines and basic foodstuffs due to temporary closure of international air flights.

Due to the current difficult epidemiological situation in our country, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic provides the following information on the efforts of leaders and members of the Kyrgyz diaspora living in the United States.

As at July 10, 2020, representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora in New York decided to purchase necessary medicines in the amount of 7-8 thousand USD dollars for the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital, Resuscitation Unit in the former Gansi military base and Family Medicine Center No.6.

Our compatriots in Philadelphia city have planned to purchase 24 oxygen concentrators and necessary medicines for hospitals of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Members of the Kyrgyz diaspora in Pittsburgh city decided to purchase 8 oxygen concentrators for regional hospitals.

Through the efforts of compatriots in Ohio, 20 oxygen concentrators and medicines will be purchased for appropriate medical institutions recommended by the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Leaders and members of the Kyrgyz diaspora in Chicago will send funds to the “Elim Barsynby” Foundation to purchase more than 20 oxygen concentrators.

Our compatriots in Florida transferred funds for the needs of hospitals in Issyk-Kul, Batken and Jalal-Abad regions for a total amount of 9 thousand US dollars. They are also planning to pay the salaries for 5 doctors from the regional hospitals in Issyk-Kul oblast.

Representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora from Houston city purchased 2 oxygen concentrators for one of the observation centers in Bishkek.

Members of the Kyrgyz diaspora in California have decided to send funds to the “Women's League” association to acquire about 10 oxygen concentrators.

As part of providing assistance to the regions of Kyrgyzstan, immigrants from Balykchy town purchased 12 oxygen concentrators for the Balykchy city hospital.

The funds is also being collected to assist the districts of Issyk-Kul, Talas and Naryn regions.

In addition, several groups of the Kyrgyz diaspora organized and collected funds through the GoFundMe charity Internet site. On March 26, representatives of the Kyrgyz diasporas in Illinois and California provided financial assistance to the Kyrgyz Republic in the amount of 13 thousand US dollars. Financial resources were transferred to a group of activists in the Kyrgyz Republic “Narodnyi shtab”. They provided health workers with personal protective equipment and low-income families with food. On April 6, the second tranche of 10 thousand US dollars was sent to Kyrgyzstan to purchase medical supplies. On July 5, 13365 US dollars were used to purchase oxygen concentrators.

According to representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora in Ohio, on May 18, 3.5 thousand US dollars were transferred to the “Elim Barsynby” foundation to support low-income families in the Chui region of the Kyrgyz Republic. In addition, representatives of Ohio transferred 1.5 thousand US dollars to migrants of the Kyrgyz Republic who were in a difficult situation in Orenburg, Russia.

Representatives of the diaspora will provide additional information after receiving the above humanitarian assistance by medical institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic.
