Trade and Economic Cooperation

The trade and economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United States is governed by the WTO agreement and enjoys the most favored-nation regime in trade. In 1998, the U.S. Congress passed a law granting the regime of normal trade relations (NTR) to Kyrgyzstan (the removal of the Jackson-Vanik amendment).  Since 2016 the US-Kyrgyz Business Council, founded by such large American companies as General Electric, AGCO and Baker Mckenzie LLP, has been functioning in order to develop and strengthen cooperation between representatives of business communities of the two countries.  The United States is one of the ten largest trading partners of Kyrgyzstan, and one of the largest donors of official development assistance to Kyrgyzstan.
