On May 4, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbaev had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto. During the negotiations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Kazakbaev informed P.Szijjarto about the events and the current situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

Minister R.Kazakbaev noted the importance of resolving the conflict only through a constructive peaceful dialogue between the parties, stressed the need to comply with the previously reached agreements on a ceasefire and withdrawal of troops. At the same time, he assured about the adherence of the Kyrgyz Republic to bilateral and international obligations and agreements.

It was noted with great sorrow that as a result of the conflict there were casualties, including among the civilian population. In addition, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic faces an important task of rebuilding destroyed infrastructure and social facilities in the post-conflict period, as well as the houses of civilians. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Kazakbaev expressed hope for the support of Hungary and the European Union in the process of restoration and peacebuilding work in the Batken region.

In his turn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary P.Szijjarto expressed his condolences to the families of the victims as a result of the conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. P.Szijjarto noted the importance of achieving peace and stability through diplomatic efforts.

The parties also discussed issues of further implementation of the agreements reached following the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary P.Szijjarto to the Kyrgyz Republic on April 8 this year. In particular, the issues of holding the first meeting of the Strategic Council at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and Hungary this year, conducting work on the opening of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Hungary were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the joint work on the opening of direct flights from Budapest to Bishkek.
