The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Austria held a wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Soviet military memorial at the Central Cemetery in Vienna

On August 10, 2021, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Austria held a wreath-laying ceremony on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Soviet military memorial at the Central Cemetery in Vienna.

The event was attended by the heads and employees of the diplomatic missions of the CIS countries, representatives of the mayor's office of Vienna, and the public organization "Austrian Black Cross".

Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Austria Tolendy Makeev and employees of the Embassy on behalf of the Kyrgyz Republic honored the memory of their compatriots who died for the liberation of Vienna from the Nazi yoke by laying a wreath at the monument to Soviet soldiers.

In Austria, there are more than three hundred Soviet military graves and memorial sites associated with the history of World War II.

The former Mauthausen concentration camp is also located here; which was distinguished by a particularly cruel regime of detention of prisoners. According to official figures, from 1938 to 1945, about 90 thousand people from 70 countries died in Mauthausen, of which 32,180 were Soviet soldiers.

Among them were immigrants from Kyrgyzstan, whose names are known today, these are B.Sh.Shavdanov, R.B.Tilebaldeev, G.I.Ibragimov, V.S.Dolgosheev, A.Dorokhov, D.Attekurov, P.Zharikov, P.Saidaev, D.Jailbaev, T.K.Kanaev, I.Ivanets, P.Yazykov, V.Kozenko, P.I,Lobastov, A.Atavaev, E.M.Tagaev, S.Dzhunushaliev.

Taking into account these circumstances, on July 17, 2021, in Mauthausen, with the assistance of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Vienna, a memorial plaque was opened in honor of the Kyrgyz soldiers who died in Austria. Thus, special attention is paid to preserving the memory of the fallen Kyrgyzstanis in the host countries and additional accreditation of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Austria.

The day before, on the eve of the above event, a bilateral meeting of the Ambassadors of the Kyrgyz Republic - Tolendy Makeev and the Russian Federation - Dmitri Ljubinskij was held at the Russian diplomatic mission in Vienna, during which an exchange of views took place on a number of issues of mutual interest. The parties expressed their readiness to continue the traditionally active practical interaction for holding joint cultural, educational, and other events in the host country.
