Presentation of Credentials (Accreditation Note) by the Ambassador T.Makeyev to the CTBTO Executive Secretary Robert Floyd

On 11 August 2021 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Austria T.Makeyev presented to the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (PC CTBTO) Robert Floyd the Credentials (Accreditation Note) on his appointment as Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the CTBTO in Vienna.

During the meeting, the Permanent Representative T.Makeyev congratulated R.Floyd on his election as CTBTO Executive Secretary and expressed his readiness for fruitful cooperation to activate and strengthen constructive interaction between the Kyrgyz Republic and the CTBTO.

The Permanent Representative has also expressed his gratitude to the CTBTO for its concrete technical assistance provided to the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and drew attention to the timely payment by the Kyrgyz side of the amount of the contribution to the budget of the Organization for the current year.

In turn, Robert Floyd congratulated T.Makeyev on the beginning of his diplomatic activity as Permanent Representative and informed him about the upcoming main events of the Organization. He noted the importance of further participation and contribution of the Kyrgyz Republic to the CTBTO. In this context, he highly appreciated the functioning of seismic stations in the Kyrgyz Republic based on the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, which are part of the International Monitoring System.

A constructive exchange of views on other topical issues of the cooperation agenda and practical interaction between the Kyrgyz Republic and the CTBTO took place at the meeting.

Kyrgyzstan deposited its instrument of ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) on October 2, 2003. According to the terms of the Agreement, an auxiliary seismic station AS060 is located in Ala-Archa, Kyrgyzstan. This station is part of the International Monitoring System (IMS), consisting of 337 sites, which is being established to verify compliance with the terms of the Treaty.

The CTBT bans all nuclear explosions everywhere, by everyone and for all time.
