The Ambassador Tolendy Makeyev met with Peter Launsky-Tiffenthal, Secretary General of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria on September 22, 2021.

During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues of relations between the two countries on a bilateral and multilateral basis.

The Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Austria briefly informed the interlocutor about the current internal political and socio-economic situation in the Kyrgyz Republic. He stated that Kyrgyzstan, as before, is committed to its earlier commitments, and foreign policy and economic priorities remain unchanged.

He noted that Kyrgyzstan, first of all, is aimed at further development and strengthening of trade and economic ties between the two countries. The parties agreed that Kyrgyzstan and Austria have great opportunities in cooperation in the field of hydropower, healthcare and digital technologies, especially taking into account the possibilities of using “soft” loans that the Austrian side is ready to provide.

He emphasized the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic to develop a joint roadmap in all areas of bilateral cooperation.

It has been agreed, to work out together with the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria the holding in the jubilee year of  2022 of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of a number of specific steps to intensify bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Austria, in particular, organizing mutual visits at the highest and high levels, holding regular inter-ministerial consultations.

The Austrian side announced that it is considering high-level participation in the First International Economic Forum of the EU - Central Asia, which is planned to be held on November 5, 2021 in Bishkek.

For reference: The Austrian Republic recognized the independence of the Kyrgyz Republic on January 15, 1992. Diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Austria were established on March 25, 1992.
