OSCE ODIHR presented its main findings and recommendations of its Opinion on the Code of Ethics for the Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic

On 28 February 2023, in the framework of the reinforced meeting of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Judicial and Legal Issues and the Regulations of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, a presentation of the analysis of the Code of Ethics for the Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic was held with the participation of representatives of the OSCE and deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the presentation, the Deputy Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Azygaliev noted that in 2008 Kyrgyzstan, as one of the first in the post-Soviet area adopted the Code of Ethics for the Deputies and is the only state in the Central Asian region that highlighted the norms of ethics in a separate document.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Ms. Cholpon Sultanbekova expressed her gratitude to the representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR for the presentation of the analysis of the Code and pointed out that this is the first step to updating this legislative document and developing effective mechanisms.

As a result of the presentation, the Committee decided to establish a working group to improve the Code of Ethics for the Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.

This event was organized in close coordination of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Permanent Delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic in Vienna with the OSCE/ODIHR and the OSCE Program office in Bishkek.
