On 5 June 2020, a virtual interactive dialogue and Forum of Small States (FOSS) briefing took place with the Director General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ghada Fathi Waly.

This meeting was the first for many Member States since the assumption of the Head of UNOV and UNODC by Ghada Fathi Waly. During the briefing the Executive Director informed on her experience as Head of UNOV and UNODC over the past three months, as well as her goals and priorities for the development of the Office.

In his address, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in Vienna, Bakyt Dzhusupov, noted that over 15 years of cooperation, Kyrgyzstan and UNODC have established a close and strong partnership, which has strengthened in recent months. He noted the importance of promoting platforms such as FOSS, which are an additional tool for expanding cooperation on a multilateral platform.

Regarding the prospect of program activities for the coming years in the Central Asian region, taking into account the great impact of the pandemic on the socio-economic situation in the region, Ghada Waly assured that the Central Asian program for the upcoming cycle is important for the Office, a range of action will be taken that will also be reviewed in the context of the development of the COVID-19 pandemic.
