10 December 2018 at the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries held a literary evening dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Chingiz Aitmatov.

The event was attended by representatives of ministries of Belarus, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited in Minsk, representatives of the Friendship Society "Belarus-Kyrgyzstan", the creative community and the intellectuals, cultural workers and the media, as well as students of higher educational establishments of Belarus.

During the event, First Deputy Minister of Culture of Belarus N.Korchevskaya delivered a congratulatory speech noting the work of Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov. Also, "Belarus-Kyrgyzstan" Friendship Society Chairman Nicholas Cherginets spoke about the work of the writer and shared stories of the writer's life.

In turn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belarus Mr. Peter Dettmar and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkey to the Republic of Belarus Ms. Kezban Darama, as well as students of Belarusian universities in their speeches, read excerpts from the works of Chingiz Aitmatov in accompanied by excerpts from the movies these works.

In his speech, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Kubanychbek Omuraliev noted that Aitmatov as an artist, thinker and an outstanding figure of literature is one of the greatest writers of our time, which has brought in literature entirely new thoughts and ideas, substantiated the highest spiritual values as the basis of human nature, has identified their main and decisive in his personality.

The guests were presented the documentary film on the life and work of the writer and photo exhibition "Aitmatov - the diplomat".
