Diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Kingdom of Belgium were established on March 25, 1992. In June 1994, within the framework of the visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Akaev to Brussels, the first bilateral Kyrgyz-Belgian document was signed after the declaration of independence of the Kyrgyz Republic - the Joint Declaration. The Kyrgyz-Belgian legal base contains 4 agreements.

In the period from October 22 to 24, 2012, in Bishkek, an agreement was signed on establishing sister city relations between Bishkek and Liege and the Technical Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Wallonia Agency on Foreign Trade and Investment “AWEX” on economic partnership and training .

In the framework of the visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic A.Atambayev to Belgium in March 2015, a Memorandum on cooperation in the field of health was signed between the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Belgian Health Foundation. As a result of the signing of the Memorandum, the Belgian side provided 2 facilities for decontamination (cleaning) of indoor air, worth approximately 15,000 euros, free of charge to the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic. The equipment was timely delivered and transferred to the addressee.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic prepared a draft Agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Federal Public Service (FOS) of Belgium. However, the Belgian side did not express readiness to sign the above-mentioned document during the visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Atambayev to Belgium in March 2015. In this regard, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Belgium on September 23, 2015, during a meeting with the Director of the Belgian Foreign Ministry in charge. J. Embike made a proposal to postpone the signing of the Agreement to a later date. The official response of the FOS Belgium is expected.

The issue of signing the Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Benelux countries on the abolition of the visa regime for holders of diplomatic passports was initiated. An agreement was reached following the completion of the agreement in the Benelux countries to sign in one package together with the draft Readmission Agreement. At present, the drafts of the above agreements are under consideration by the Benelux countries.
