On May 28, 2019, the EU – Central Asia High-level Political and Security Dialogue was held in Brussels. The European Union delegation was headed by the Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Mr. Jean-Christoph Belliard. The delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs A.Madmarov. The meeting was attended by delegations from the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers.

The meeting’s agenda included issues of countering international and regional security threats such as terrorism, radicalism, and extremism; joint actions of the Central Asian countries and the European Union on border management and control, illegal drugs trafficking in the framework of the European Union programs "BOMCA", "CADAP", "EU-ACT"; the current security situation in Afghanistan and the mechanisms for regional cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the Parties also discussed the adoption and implementation of the new EU Strategy for Central Asia, made specific proposals to improve the effectiveness of cooperation in the areas of security, trade and economy, transport, education, environment and water resources management.

In this context, the heads of delegations noted the importance of the upcoming 15th meeting of foreign ministers of Central Asia and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy F.Mogherini in Bishkek, during this meeting the European Union will present a new Strategy for cooperation with Central Asia.

All participants of the meeting noted the importance of combining and coordinating efforts of the European Union, Central Asia and Afghanistan to combat terrorism and extremism, positively noted the implementation of the 9th phase of the BOMCA program and the 6th phase of the CADAP program in Central Asia, discussed potential areas of cooperation in implementing EU project on combating drugs and organized crime "EU-ACT".
