100th Birth Anniversary of the First Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz SSR Kuluypa Konduchalova

Today on June 15, 2020 would mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the First Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz SSR Kuluypa Konduchalova.

K. Konduchalova was born on June 15, 1920 in the village of Kara-Zhigach in the Alamedin district of the Kyrgyz SSR. She started her career as a teacher. In 1943, as one of the first Kyrgyz women in a leadership position, she was send as s student of the Higher Party School to Moscow. On July 25, 1953, she was approved as the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR. Later, from October 12, 1953, she served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz SSR.

During the leadership of K.Konduchalova, the Ministry formed the basis for the future diplomacy of sovereign Kyrgyzstan and has been conducting an independent foreign policy for 28 years.

K.Koduchalova was called the «Iron Lady of the Tien Shan». For 22 years she led the Ministry of Culture of the KSSR. Contemporaries also associate with her the birth of a unique «Kyrgyz miracle» in cinema. At that time, Chyngyz Aitmatov climbed to the top of the literary Olympus not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also in the whole world.

On September 18, 2010, by a decree оf the President of the Kyrgyz Republic R.Otunbayeva, for special services to the state and people of Kyrgyzstan, K.Konduchalova was awarded the highest degree of distinction «Kyrgyz Respublikasynyn Baatyry» (Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic) with a special sign «Ak-Shumkar». In honor of the centenary of the Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic, state and public figure, First Minister of Foreign Affairs of the KSSR and the legendary former Minister of culture of the KSSR, honored worker of culture of the Kyrgyz Republic, the week «Kuluypa Konduchalova and Kyrgyz culture» was announced in Kyrgyzstan.

Within the framework of the week, Kyrgyzstan hosted special live broadcasts, online exhibitions and cultural events that will reflect the contribution of K.Konduchalova to the development and formation of the Kyrgyz culture.
