The Kyrgyz Republic imports about 500 thousand tons of gasoline per year, and the funds paid for it by the Kyrgyz people completely go to foreign countries. One of the main directions of state policy is to reduce dependence on imports.

On October 13, 2022, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Germany Mr. Omurbek Tekebaev met with Mr. Stefan Walter, Executive Director of the German Association of Bioethanol Producers, in order to study the German experience in reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere from fuel and, as well as supporting farmers.

During the meeting, Mr. Stefan Walter informed about the production of bioethanol in Germany from sugar beet, wheat and straw and spoke about the experience of adding bioethanol to gasoline up to 10%. Importantly, adding bioethanol to gasoline reduces the amount of toxic air pollutants.

Ambassador Mr. Omurbek Tekebaev informed that the Law on Bioethanol was adopted in Kyrgyzstan in 2020 and expressed interest in building a bioethanol plant in Kyrgyzstan.

In Kyrgyzstan, it is possible to produce bioethanol from agricultural products, including potatoes, and up to 10% can be added to gasoline. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan will purchase 10% less gasoline from abroad, and instead of these 10%, bioethanol will be added from products produced by Kyrgyz farmers.

As a result, Kyrgyz farmers, especially in mountainous areas, will be provided with work by growing potatoes. The products that they will produce are guaranteed to be purchased. In addition, when using gasoline with the addition of bioethanol, the amount of toxic substances emitted into the air is reduced.
