On November 16, Ambassador Bakyt Amanbaev met with Sheila Switzer, Program Chair of the Associates of the American Foreign Service Worldwide. The Ambassador said at the meeting that the Kyrgyz are one of the oldest peoples of the world, and suggested organizing a cultural event with the U.S. State Department to show foreign representatives the rich traditions, music and national culture of the Kyrgyz.
During the discussion, Bakyt Amanbaev presented a tentative plan for the cultural event. All diplomatic missions accredited in Washington, D.C., representatives from international organizations and government agencies will be invited to the event. The event will feature Kyrgyz melodies played on the Kyrgyz national musical instrument komuz, a Kyrgyz Kara Jorgo dance, an excerpt from the Manas epic, a film about the unique arts and crafts of the Kyrgyz people (felt art, weaving, patterned embroidery, leather goods, etc.) and a presentation of Kyrgyz fashion designer collections at the end of the event.
The U.S. side has promised to support the ambassador's above-mentioned proposal and provide full support for the event. The event is scheduled for next spring or fall.
