The U.S. Agency for International Development will help improve air quality in Bishkek

On December 20, 2022, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United States Bakyt Amanbaev met with U.S. Agency for International Development Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on developing bilateral cooperation and increasing the effectiveness of U.S. government assistance to Kyrgyzstan. Bakyt Amanbaev noted that under the leadership of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov large-scale projects are implemented that will promote economic development not only in Kyrgyzstan but also in all countries of Central Asia and explained the importance of such projects. Bakyt Amanbaev also identified sectors of Kyrgyzstan that need special assistance and pointed out the need to direct all U.S. government assistance to rebuild the Batken region and improve air quality in the capital city of Bishkek.


The U.S. side, supporting Ambassador Amanbayev's proposals, noted that the U.S. government has provided assistance to Batken residents in the form of humanitarian aid totaling 8 million KGS, and reported that USAID will begin a special project to improve the environment and air quality in Bishkek.
