On March 23-24, 2023 the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Hungary together with the Szeged University of Hungary held a scientific conference on natural hazards and climate change in Szeged, Hungary.

The event was attended by representatives of scientific circles of the Kyrgyz Republic, Hungary, Italy, Germany, USA, Romania, Serbia and other countries.

In his speech, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Hungary Talantbek Kushchubekov noted that the threat of climate change is taking on a critical scale and endangers, among others, mountain ecosystems. The Ambassador informed that on the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic S.N.Zhaparov in December 2022 the United Nation’s General Assembly adopted a resolution "Sustainable Mountain Development" and declared years 2023-2027 as the "Five Year Action for Mountain Development". "The adoption of the resolution is the result of many years of activity by the Kyrgyz Republic to promote the interests of mountain countries and confirmation of its leading position in this issue," said T. Kushchubekov.

During the event, the participants of the conference presented their research on climate change, natural hazards and mitigation of their consequences. In particular, from the Kyrgyz side S. Orunbaev, Head of the Department of Applied Geology, Environmental Sustainability and Climatology of AUCA, made a presentation on "Ground-based and Remote sensing monitoring of water resources and infrastructures".

In the format of active discussion and deliberation, the conference participants exchanged their views and expressed readiness for fruitful interaction with the academic circles of the countries participating in the event.
