The delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic took part in the 66th session of the Commission on the Status of Women

From March 14 to 25, 2022, the 66th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is being held in New York in a hybrid format on the topic: "Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes".

The delegation of Kyrgyzstan took part in the opening and parallel events of the session at the level of the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations in New York, Aida Kasymalieva. 

Speaking at the general debate, A.Kasymalieva noted that the Kyrgyz Republic is committed to fulfilling international obligations to combat climate change, within the framework of adopted and ratified international conventions and agreements.

She also stressed that Kyrgyzstan takes into account the importance of achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, and has implemented gender approaches in key strategic documents and action plans to effectively promote factual equality.

A.Kasymalieva emphasized the role of women in the mountainous regions of the country. She informed that in rural mountainous areas, where 65% of the female population of the republic live, women are most exposed to the risks and negative consequences of climate change and natural disasters. According to research, about 70% of victims of natural disasters are women and children.

The event is attended by representatives of 180 United Nations Member States, international organizations and civil society.
