Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan took part in General discussion of Commission

Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic Mirgul Moldoisaeva took part in general discussion of the 62nd session of the Commission on Status of Women on the topic Challenges and Opportunities in Achieving Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Rural Women and Girls which took place on 15 March 2018.

In framework of the general discussion the participants discussed a contribution of rural women in promotion of food security of local communities, climate change resilience, strengthening of local and national economies. At the same time problems of local women because of gender inequality, social, legislative and economic discrimination. Also, it was mentioned that rural women face the increasing number of obstacles towards the development of their potential for development connected with fast-changing economic conditions, technological development and changes in environmental changes. According to the participants’ opinion of the 62nd Commission on Status of Women leave women far behind in comparison to rural men and town women. 

During the general discussion the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Mirgul Moldoisaeva announced common dimensions of the national policy of Kyrgyz Republic in sphere protection of women’s rights, gender equality, widening of opportunities for rural women in economic, political and social spheres as well as measures in eradication of discrimination and violence against women.

In particular, Mirgul Moldoisaeva informed about the adoption of the National Strategy on Achieving Gender Equality in Kyrgyzstan before 2020, and changes in the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic which allow to struggle against discrimination, women’s rights violations and violence against them. Also, she mentioned the examples of public bodies’ activity in issues connected with implementation of women’s rights and gender parity.
