In the period from November 12 to 13, 2019 in Dushanbe, a workshop was held through the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) on the issues of water and energy cooperation in the Central Asian region, as well as the practice of water diplomacy in relation to disputes, related to water in the context of the relationship “Water, peace and security”.

The event was attended by Ambassador-at-Large Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Asangul, employees of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Tatarstan and the State Agency for Water Resources of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as experts from foreign affairs and relevant departments of Central Asia and Afghanistan.

The thematic seminar was designed to familiarize with international experience in the field of water diplomacy, exchange of best practices in Central Asia and Afghanistan. Participants substantively familiarized themselves with the role of water diplomacy in the conservation and management of joint transboundary waters and related resources. The parties discussed the international legal aspects of water and energy cooperation in Central Asia and the draft Regulation of the Task Force on Water and Energy Cooperation under the auspices of the UNRCCA.
