Cultural and humanitarian cooperation

The cultural and humanitarian sphere is one of the most important areas of the Kyrgyz Republic and Japan bilateral cooperation. The Embassy and also jointly with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan Center for International Cooperation (JICE), Japan Foundation, etc. implement various programs and projects.

The most significant events in recent years: the participation of the Japanese sports and cultural delegation in the III World Nomad Games; on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Kyrgyz Republic and the 90th anniversary of the People's Writer Ch. T. Aitmatov were holding Days of Kyrgyz films; organizing 4 concerts of the international orchestra of folk instruments TURKSOY in different cities of Japan, including a series of master classes and lectures; concert in Tokyo on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the People's Writer Ch. T. Aitmatov; participation of Kyrgyz athletes in the World Judo Championship in Osaka.

At the same time, the coronavirus pandemic, which began in 2020, has made its own adjustments in all spheres of life. The restrictions imposed aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus infection forced the cancellation of a several of previously planned events.

However, despite this, on December 15, 2020 at the Embassy was organized an Evening of History and Culture of Kyrgyzstan. The guests of the evening were able to get acquainted with the history and culture of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the products of applied art of Kyrgyz artisans.

On January 16, 2021, a Kyrgyz festival was held in Hamura, Tokyo Prefecture, aimed at familiarizing with the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the festival, Kyrgyz performer Kalyyman Umetbaeva, Japanese singer Mita Re, as well as Japanese musicians of the Tokyo Institute of Art showed skills, also was made a presentation about Kyrgyz products, culture, tourism, and was organized a photo exhibition of Kyrgyz landscapes, national clothing and souvenirs.

The Mayor of Hamura city Sh. Namiki handed to the Ambassador M. Arstanbaev an album that was released in support of Kyrgyz judo athletes in the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.

January 21, 2021 with elaborate of the Embassy young artists of the Kyrgyz Republic gets opportunity to show creativity and participate in the 18th international exhibition «Art without Borders», organized by the «International Association of SUMI» at the National Art Center in Tokyo.

The Kyrgyz Republic is represented by the works of 15 young artists, including children from orphanages in Kyrgyzstan. The exhibition presents more than 180 works from 22 countries of the world.

On February 17, 2021, during the investment webinar of the online exhibition «Central Asia – Virtual EXPO (CAVEX)», representative of the Ministry of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic made a presentation about Kyrgyzstan and the existing potential for big japanese companies.

Also in March 2021, the Embassy, together with the City Hall of Minato, planned to hold a «World Festival» at the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to Japan with the participation of residents of Minato and other Embassies. However, due to the emergency mode the Minato City Hall postponed this event to a later date.

From June 1 to 17, 2021, in Osaka the national football team of Kyrgyzstan took part in the qualifying matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

From July 22 to August 10, 2021, 16 Kyrgyz athletes in various sports took part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Kyrgyz athletes won two silver medals: Aisuluu Tynybekova in freestyle wrestling and Akzhol Makhmudov in Greco-Roman wrestling. Meerim Zhumanazarova also received a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling. In the final medal standings of the Olympics, Kyrgyzstan was in 70th place.

From August 20 to September 8, 2021, para-athletes will arrive in Tokyo to participate in the Paralympics Games Tokyo 2020. The city of Yamanashi, which is the host town for Kyrgyz para-athletes in powerlifting, has developed a flag in support of Kyrgyz para-athletes in the upcoming games.

In 2021 will be celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Kyrgyz Republic, and also in 2022 will be the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and Japan, and the Embassy together with the Japanese side will hold a series of important events dedicated to these events.
