On January 31, 2024, in Tokyo, a meeting was held between the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Japan Erkinbek Osoev and the Vice President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Mr. Naoyuki Maekawa. During the meeting, the parties noted with satisfaction the intensification of the dynamics of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Japan in the field of trade turnover between the countries and the following issues were discussed:

- cooperation of the Kyrgyz Republic with JETRO, the results of the meeting of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov on November 20, 2023 with the Chairman of the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO) Mr. Norihiko Ishiguro during the official visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic to Japan;

- expansion of investment and technological cooperation of the Kyrgyz Republic with Japanese companies, assistance in attracting Japanese equipment/technologies to the market of the Kyrgyz Republic for small and medium-sized businesses (organization of exhibitions, forums, etc.);

- creation of joint Kyrgyz-Japanese enterprises in various sectors of the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic and promotion of projects for the development of the digital economy.

   In addition, during the meeting, Ambassador Erkinbek Osoev asked to support the proposal previously voiced by the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov to the Chairman of JETRO Norihiko Ishiguro to open a JETRO office in Bishkek. JETRO Vice President Naoyuki Maekawa briefly informed about JETRO’s activities and future plans, and expressed gratitude for the above proposal from the Kyrgyz side, adding that the opening of a JETRO office in Bishkek is being studied by JETRO experts through research in the Kyrgyz Republic.

    The parties agreed that the results of the above meeting of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic with the Chairman of JETRO could open up new opportunities for the implementation of various programs and projects within the framework of Kyrgyz-Japanese business cooperation and expressed their readiness to deepen mutually beneficial and long-term partnership.
