Political collaboration

Diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and Turkmenistan were established on October 9, 1992.
There is an active political dialogue and contacts at the highest level.
In November 2014, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Atambayev paid an official visit to Turkmenistan. During the visit, on November 11, 2014, the Treaty of Friendship, Mutual Understanding, and Cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Turkmenistan was signed.
In December 2015, President of Turkmenistan G. Berdymukhamedov paid a state visit to Kyrgyzstan.
The cooperation between the two countries reached a high level during the state visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic S. Jeenbekov to Turkmenistan in August 2018, when the Declaration on strategic partnership, strengthening friendship and trust between the Kyrgyz Republic and Turkmenistan was signed, giving the bilateral relations a strategic character.
The official visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic S. Japarov to Turkmenistan (June 28-29, 2021) was a significant event. During the official visit, the leaders of the two states held intensive negotiations, during which they declared their readiness to give additional impetus to bilateral cooperation and reached important agreements on a number of key areas of Kyrgyz-Turkmen cooperation. A Joint Declaration was signed and an extensive package of joint documents adopted.
The relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and Turkmenistan are of progressive nature and are developing in an upward direction. The high level of Kyrgyz-Turkmen relations expressed in mutual aspiration of the parties to develop bilateral cooperation in political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres is maintained. Further deepening of the Kyrgyz-Turkmen relations and filling them with new content meets the long-term interests of the two countries.
