Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Kingdom Ulan Djusupov met with Fiona Bruce, MP, the UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief

On June 1, 2022, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Kingdom Ulan Djusupov met with Fiona Bruce, MP, the UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief.  

The meeting was aimed at discussing the forthcoming International Conference on Freedom of Religion or Belief, which will be held in London, on 5-6 July 2022.

Ambassador Djusupov shared that the Kyrgyz Republic is strongly committed to fundamental human rights, including freedom of religion. It was emphasized that the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic guarantees the right to freedom of religion and belief.

During the conversation, Ambassador U.Djusupov spoke about the efforts to strengthen religious tolerance and interfaith tolerance.

Fiona Bruce highly praised the achievements of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of religious freedom, and the coordination of work at the state level by the State Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for Religious Affairs.

A high assessment was also given to the school subject "The History of Religious Culture" which has been taught at general education schools in Kyrgyzstan.

Ambassador and the Special Envoy also exchanged views on preventing negative consequences of the radicalization of religion. The parties stressed the potential danger in social networks, where extremist groups, using modern technologies, carry out work aimed at inciting interethnic and interfaith hatred.

In conclusion, the parties agreed to exchange on a regular base of useful information and experience regarding the negative effects of religious radicalism.
