Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva Daniyar Mukashev took part in a meeting of countries participating in the United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA)

September 9, 2019. Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva Daniyar Mukashev took part in a meeting of countries participating in the United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA). The participants discussed the current state of SPECA and its prospects, including preparations for the upcoming SPECA Economic Forum, the sessions of two Working Groups, as well as the 14th session of the Governing Council of the Special Program in Ashgabat in November 2019.

Discussing the SPECA activities, the parties noted its positive contribution to the development of the region and outlined further steps in order to more effectively use the expert and technical potential of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. In particular, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe O. Algaerova shared her initiative to create a new institute within SPECA.

Permanent Representative D. Mukashev presented the position of Kyrgyzstan on the Special Program and, in the framework of the upcoming chairmanship of our country in SPECA in 2020, noted that the Kyrgyz Republic intends to make every effort to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in the region in all areas of interaction.

For reference: The United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) was launched in 1998 to strengthen subregional cooperation in Central Asia and its integration into the global economy. SPECA countries are: Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. SPECA activities are carried out within the framework of the Working Groups in the following areas: water, energy and the environment; sustainable transport, transit and connectivity; trade development; statistics; knowledge-based development, gender equality and the SDGs.
