Press release of the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York

On June 23, 2020, the UN Security Council high-level virtual Open Debates on the theme “Protecting Children in Armed Conflict” was held.

Open Debates held in the format of videoconference was attended by the Virginia Gamba, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, H.E. Ms Henrietta Fore, Executive Director of UNICEF, as well as UN member states representatives, including the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York M. Moldoisaeva.

In her speech, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic emphasized the importance of protection of children in armed conflicts in the world. In particular, it was noted that the ongoing armed conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic around the world confirm the need for States to take timely and effective measures to protect children.

It was emphasized that Kyrgyzstan strongly condemns all acts of violence against children and fully supports all initiatives of the international community to resolve conflicts and protect children.
