In Dushanbe was held the Meeting of the Working Group on Afghanistan (WGA) under the CSTO Ministerial Council with the participation of National Focal points for Afghanistan

On October 28-29, 2019 in Dushanbe was held the Meeting of the Working Group on Afghanistan (WGA) under the CSTO Ministerial Council with the participation of National Focal points for Afghanistan.

Sagynbek Ibraev, the Kyrgyz Republic National Focal Point for Afghanistan, Counselor of the Fourth Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, was elected as Head of the WGA under CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers for the term of the Kyrgyz Republic’s chairmanship at the CSTO,

In this event, representatives of the CSTO Secretariat, the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the SCO have participated.

During the meeting, issues related to the military-political situation in Afghanistan, threats to the security of the CSTO Member States emanating from the territory of this country were discussed. The necessity of continuing the process of consolidating efforts of the CSTO member states towards Afghanistan within the Organization, on a bilateral basis and in the format of specialized international platforms was emphasized.

Moreover, during the Coordination Meeting of the Chairpersons of Committees on Defense and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States, held on October 28, 2019 in Dushanbe, where members of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Tynchtyk Shainazarov, Baktybek Sydykov and Bekten Sydygaliyev as well as representatives of Kyrgyz Embassy in Tajikistan took part, Head of the WGA, Focal Point on Afghanistan Sagynbek Ibraev addressed a report titled "The activities of ISIS and other international terrorist organizations in Afghanistan."
