Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Almaz Imangaziev met with the Ambassador of Iceland with residence in Moscow H.E. Mr. Aurni Thor Sigurdsson

On March 16, 2023, Mr. Almaz Imangaziev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, received H.E. Mr. Aurni Thor Sigurdsson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iceland with residence in Moscow.

Mr. A.Imangaziev congratulated on the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Iceland in Bishkek, expressing confidence that this step would allow to intensify cooperation.

The Deputy Minister briefly informed on the development of hydropower in Kyrgyzstan.

Given the agreements concluded with France, Switzerland and Italy on abolishing visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, he suggested considering a similar agreement with Iceland.

H.E. Ambassador Sigurdsson, in his turn, stressed his vision of a variety of fields for possible bilateral cooperation, including trade.

H.E. Ambassador Sigurdsson informed that the Icelandic party was already considering a visa regime with Kyrgyzstan and suggested exploring the issue of concluding agreements on air transport and avoidance of double taxation.

Finally, the parties agreed to study the issue of opening an honorary consulate of Kyrgyzstan in Iceland.
