Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and other international organizations Almazbek Bеishenaliev presented the credential letters to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization

The ceremony of awarding the credentials to the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, took place on July 26 in the Headquarters of the World Trade Organization in Geneva. The credentials of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala were presented by the new Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva Almazbek Bеishenaliev.

During the meeting, Almazbek Bеishenaliev briefly informed the WTO Director-General about the domestic political, economic situation in Kyrgyzstan and the last political events in the country. The Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic noted that the Kyrgyz Republic has joined the WTO in 1998, and at that time the country has demonstrated political willingness to run liberal reforms in the country which made the country pioneer of economic transformation in the post-Soviet region, becoming the first WTO member in the CIS region. As the representative of the Kyrgyz Republic noted, since 1998, after joining the WTO, the Kyrgyz Republic has doubled the number of the countries with which it maintains trade and economic relations.

Almazbek Bеishenaliev congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala with the recent appointment to the position of the Director-General, wished her successful holding of the Ministerial Conference of the WTO in November-December 2021 and assured Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala that the Kyrgyz Republic will actively participate in the work of the WTO’s major event.

The WTO Chief, in turn, also stressed that the Kyrgyz Republic is one of the countries to demonstrate best practice in conducting deep reforms in the country. She has wished the new Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic all the successes and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation. Regarding the Ministerial Conference, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala noted that the participation of the countries of the Central Asian region is being considered at the level of heads of states.
