During the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zheenbek Kulubaev to the Republic of Korea, on October 23, 2022, a bilateral meeting was held in Seoul with the Executive Director of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization Ricardo Calderon.

Ricardo Calderon congratulated Kyrgyzstan, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, on its recent entry into the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) in September this year. He informed about the activities of AFoCO to achieve the overall Sustainable Development Goals, as well as regional and global goals in the field of forestry.

Minister Zh.Kulubaev noted the initiative promoted by the Kyrgyz Republic to hold a set of measures under the general title “Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions” - 2023-2027, aimed at combating the problems and challenges of the mountainous countries of the Kyrgyz Republic.

He informed about the initiative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic S.Japarov to conduct a national tree planting campaign “Green Heritage”, which is being held under the auspices of the Year of Protection of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Resilience and is currently being implemented.

Expressed a request to support the above green initiatives of Kyrgyzstan.

The parties agreed on the importance of closer interaction between the relevant state body of the Kyrgyz Republic with AFoCO on the implementation of projects in the field of environment, ecology and forestry through AFoCO and expressed their readiness to make efforts to further strengthen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
