"Advocating the interests of women and girls in mountain regions" Kyrgyzstan held an event with the participation of students within the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

On March 14, 2024, on the margin of the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN with the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat and Utah Valley University held a side event on the topic: “Advocating for mountain women and girls’ education through student-engaged learning”.

The main goal of this event was to advocate the interests of women and girls in mountainous areas through educational programs, as well as to expand opportunities for their development.

The event was attended by representatives of member states of the UN Group of Friends of Mountainous Countries, faculty and students of Utah Valley University, as well as Osh Technological University.

On behalf of the Kyrgyz side, the Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic Gulnara Baatyrova made welcoming remarks. Permanent Representative Aida Kasymalieva in her speech noted the importance of focusing within the framework of the “Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions” on the education and self-development of students, as well as educational programs that allow women and girls in mountain regions to receive quality education and conduct independent research.
