The meeting of Permanent Representative T.Makeev with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Ms. G.F.Waly

On 3 September 2021 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Austria T.Makeyev met with the UN Under-Secretary-General, the Director-General of the UN Office at Vienna/Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ms. Ghada Fathi Waly in Vienna. At the meeting, T.Makeyev presented to Ms. G.F.Waly Credentials on his appointment as the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Office in Vienna, as well as to the UNODC.

During the bilateral meeting after the presentation, the parties have exchanged views on the general cooperation agenda between the Kyrgyz Republic and the UNODC.

The Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic expressed his gratitude to the UNODC for its initiatives and projects, which have been implementing in Kyrgyzstan. He welcomed the adoption of the UNODC Strategy for 2021–2025 and expressed the hope that the main principles of the Strategy will be reflected in the new Program for Central Asia for 2022-2025.

In conclusion, T.Makeyev expressed his readiness to make a personal contribution to strengthen practical interaction between the Kyrgyz Republic and the UNODC.

In her turn, Ms G.F.Waly expressed hope for continued active cooperation with the Kyrgyz side through T.Makeyev as the new Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic. She noted the importance of the UNODC Program for Central Asia and pointed out that the Office will continue to further support Kyrgyzstan through the implementation of specific projects in combating drug trafficking and organized crime.

For reference: UNODC is a global leader in the fight against illegal drugs and international crime. The Office was founded in 1997 through the merger of the United Nations Drug Control Program and the Center for the Prevention of International Crime.
