On the 17th of November Ambassador Tolendy Makeyev met with Franz Wessig, co-chairman of the Joint Kyrgyz-Austrian Commission for Economic Cooperation, Head of Group for Foreign Economic Relations of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labor and Economics, on issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Austria.

Parties discussed during the meeting the implementation of the agreements following the results of the 8th meeting of the Joint commission. It was agreed that a good result was achieved based on a jointly common approach to strengthening the practical component of the meeting. It was also agreed on the expediency of conducting continuous monitoring until the full implementation of the agreements reached.

Tolendy Makeyev indicated that economic and investment accents remain unchanged and Kyrgyzstan, as before, is aimed at further development and strengthening of trade and economic ties between the two countries. He stressed that in accordance with the previously reached agreements, such sectors of the economy as hydropower, tourism, agricultural processing, medicine, digitalization and education are priority and mutually beneficial for both countries.

The Ambassador also stated that great potential lies in the development of interregional cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and Austria. In this connection, the Embassy intends to launch a number of specialized business forums in the regions of Austria. The initiative of the Embassy was fully supported by the Austrian side, which expressed its readiness to provide all possible support in holding these events.

The Austrian side was invited to broad participation in the annual International Bishkek Investment Summit, which is scheduled to be held on December 8-9, 2022 in Kyrgyzstan.
