On December 9, 2022, the Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Taalay Bazarbaev took part in an event dedicated to the International Mountain Day, which is celebrated annually on December 11.

For reference: In 2002, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the annual celebration of International Mountain Day on December 11 (Resolution No. A / RES / 57/245, adopted at the 78th plenary meeting on December 20, 2002). In the resolution of the General Assembly, the world community was invited to "organize events on this day at all levels to promote the importance of sustainable development of mountain regions."

The event was held at the FAO headquarters and was dedicated to the theme “Women move mountains”, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra M. Ubach, as well as Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of FAO Member States presented their speeches to the participants of the event.

In his speech, the Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan T. Bazarbaev spoke about the leading role of Kyrgyzstan in promoting the mountain agenda in the UN General Assembly, the development of the Concept "Five Years of Development of Mountain Regions", as well as the importance of taking joint measures to protect mountain ecosystems. In addition, the guests of the event were provided with information on the ongoing integration of gender equality issues into strategic documents on climate change in Kyrgyzstan, including the approval in October 2022 of the National Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality until 2030, which includes tasks on the gender aspects of change climate.

The event also included a fashion show by famous fashion designer Stella Jean, who presented a collection of clothes made in collaboration with craft groups from Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Haiti and Peru. S. Jean collaborated with a handicraft group from Kyrgyzstan - "Topchu" and during the show outfits with Kyrgyz ornaments and embroidery were demonstrated.
