Members of Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic held a meeting with compatriots in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA)

On February 23 – March 1, 2020, a Kyrgyz Republic delegation consisting of the members of Jogorku Kenesh Mr. Mombekov, Mr. Ergeshov and Mr. Mamataliev are visiting the USA, at the invitation of The House Democracy Partnership (HDP).

Within the framework of the visit, with the assistance of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the U.S., on March 1 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, members of Jogorku Kenesh met with compatriots and representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora to discuss urgent and problematic issues faced by our compatriots living in the United States.

The inclusion of Kyrgyzstan by the U.S. leadership in the list of countries that restricts the issuance of the USA immigration visas has been discussed as one of the important issues of the meeting. In particular, representatives of Jogorku Kenesh and the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan to the United States informed compatriots about the work carried out by the state authorities of Kyrgyzstan aimed at the speedy removal of the Kyrgyz Republic from the list, as well as provided recommendations on certain issues related to visa restrictions imposed by the U.S. side.

In addition, during a working trip to Philadelphia representatives of Jogorku Kenesh and the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan to the USA visited a center for studying the Kyrgyz language, founded by representatives of the Kyrgyz diaspora living in Pennsylvania.

Emphasizing the undoubtedly important contribution of the Kyrgyz diaspora in the United States to the maintenance, development and dissemination of the mother tongue, the delegation handed over Kyrgyz language instructional books to the Kyrgyz center to supplement the school’s material and technical base.

The center is engaged in cultural and educational activities aimed at studying, disseminating and popularizing the Kyrgyz language, our culture and traditions among the younger generation of Kyrgyz people. In the center, labor activities are carried out by teachers teaching children the Kyrgyz language and playing national instruments.
