On June 12, 2020, a virtual briefing was held with the participation of the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Li Yong, who informed the Permanent Representatives of UNIDO's response to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic.

UNIDO joins the response efforts of the international community and actively involved in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the next 12 to 18 months Organisation’s efforts will be aimed at reducing the consequences of the crisis, responding to emergency situations and adapting to them. UNIDO support will prepare countries as they adjust to the “new normal”, which could

be characterised by shifts towards clean energy.  

In his address, the Permanent Representative Bakyt Dzhusupov named COVID-19 - the biggest public health crisis of the current generation. He noted that the global outbreak of coronavirus infection COVID-19 puts enormous pressure on the social and economic systems of countries around the world, including the industrial sector.

Permanent Representative Bakyt Dzhusupov thanked the Director General for the positive consideration of the appeal of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic to assist in the implementation of the project to develop environmentally friendly technologies for the treatment of medical waste.

Regarding the draft of the Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) for Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Dzhusupov emphasized the importance of implementing this project in order to support the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development and informed about the current status of the issue.
